About the Artist
My fascination with birds starts like most people with the avian ability to fly. A decade ago, as an engineering student, I stumbled on an natural history paper describing the flight of an extinct dinosaur-bird. Amazed by the details, and how much could be known from fossils, details like body weight from bone density or the wingspan from humerus length, I wondered what else humans can learn from focused observation? This is how I fell in love with birding…
I love thinking about the aerodynamics of birds and how they are masters of the air. Birding in San Diego in particular revealed each species unique unique persona which clearly resonated in their flight styles. A Black Phoebe flutters to and fro while a California Pelican glides steady and still.
More taken by these neighbors, I was compelled to capture their wonderful lives through art. I bring the world of birds to you in an attempt to enrich our mutual understanding of birds and beautify our everyday life with knowledge of their presence.
